How To Save Wet Cell

Get it out of the water as soon as possible. The plastic covers on cell phones are fairly tight, but water can enter the phone over time. But this time may be quite short - 20 seconds or less. So grab your phone quickly!
Remove the battery. This is one of the most important steps. Don't take time to think about it; electricity and water do not mix. Cutting power to your phone is a crucial first step in saving it. Many circuits inside the phone will survive immersion in water provided they are not attached to a power source when wet.
Remove your SIM card. Some or all of your valuable contacts (along with other data) could be stored on your SIM. To some people this could be more worth saving than the phone itself. SIM cards survive water damage well, but some of the following steps are unnecessary i.e. don't heat it. Just pat it dry and leave it aside until you need to connect your phone to your cellular network. Note that many phones by specific providers, such as Verizon, do not use SIM cards.
Dry your phone. Obviously you need to remove as much of the water as soon as possible, so you can to prevent it from getting into the phone. Use a towel or paper towel to remove as much of the water as possible.
Allow the phone to dry. Since you do not want to ruin your phone or lose all of the numbers in your phone book, you need to allow the phone to dry. Also, ringtones and graphics stay with the phone - not the SIM. Don't try putting the battery back on to see if it works as this would risk damaging the phone with a short circuit. Leaving your phone in a bowl of dry rice will help to expedite moisture evaporation.
Heat your phone. Apply enough heat to your phone to cause the water to evaporate without water-logging your digital screen. One of the best things you can do to save a cell phone is to set it on the back of your computer monitor or TV screen over the heat vents. This is usually the perfect amount of heat to fix your phone. The convection action of the heat vents will help carry away the moisture in your phone. Leave the phone on the heat for at least 2-3 days.
Test your phone. After you have waited 3 days, make sure everything is clean and dry looking and re-attach the battery to the phone and see if it works. If your phone does not work repeat step 4. If it still won't work, try taking your cell phone to an authorized dealer. Sometimes they can fix it.

Wireless Data Connectivity Options

Wireless Data Connectivity Options One of the best uses of a smartphone is to access information on the go. A smartphone will provide several options for wireless connectivity. We'll explain these options and provide some examples of when to use a particular connection mode. We'll start with the short-range modes and work our way up.
Infrared (IrDA or IR)
Infrared is a non-visible beam of light used to transfer data between devices. It is a line-of-sight connection that reduces it's effectiveness and speed as the distance between devices increases. IrDA has been around for a while and is typically used in many electronic devices for remote control. Some Windows Mobile devices have a commercial grade IrDA port that allows you to use it as a universal remote control (with software such as Nevo or Philips Pronto). Because of infrared's low data rate and short operating range, you'd only want to use it for point-to-point data transfers such as small files (less than 10 MB) or MP3s. The best part of IrDA is it's ease of use. Connections between devices are quick and painless with no configuration necessary, just send and point.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth is a newer technology whose main advantages are low power consumption and short-range wireless capability. These two features make it ideal for use in battery-operated devices. Bluetooth uses radio technology so it doesn't require a line-of-sight proximity with other devices. You can use Bluetooth technology to create a personal area network (PAN) Typical uses for Bluetooth are: Headsets
Keyboard, mouse
Print files to a Bluetooth-enabled printer Sync PIM information between smartphone or PDA with desktop Wireless modem connections for laptop via cellular phone Wireless connection to portable GPS receivers Bluetooth use is expanding. Even cars are starting to incorporate Bluetooth for hands-free phone connections. For all of the benefits, the only downside to Bluetooth is the sometimes flaky recognition and setup between devices. This was true of early Bluetooth implementations. Newer devices with Bluetooth seem to have fixed this problem. Check with the manufacturer or test it out before you buy.
Wi-Fi
Wireless fidelity (wireless LAN or WLAN) consists of the 802.11 standards (see table below). The Wi-Fi moniker has been attached primarily to 802.11b due to it's popularity and lack of knowledge by sales people. Part of 802.11b's popularity in laptops and mobile devices is due to it's lower power consumption over it's 802.11a and 802.11g counterparts. Wi-Fi capability can be added to some devices through third-party CF or SDIO cards. Wi-Fi is generally used to connect a device to a LAN in order to access the Internet. LAN (Local Area Network) access is accomplished either through a wireless access point (at home or in an office) or through hotspots (as found in Starbucks, for example). It is possible to make point-to-point connections between two devices but the process isn't easy.

Nokia Codes Tips and Tricks

Nokia Codes Tips and Tricks
To check the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) Type-*#06#
TAC FAC SNR SP
  • TAC = Type approval code
  • FAC = Final assembly code
  • SNR = Serial number
  • SP = Spare
To check the phones Software revision type-*#0000#
To enter the service menu type-*#92702689# (*#WAR0ANTY# )
Transfer user data to another Nokia phone via Infra-Red Clock StoppingTo check weather your SIM Card supports clock stopping type- *#746025625# (*#SIM0CLOCK# )
Revealing the Headphone and Car-Kit menusPlease note that if you do these next tricks, the new menus can't be erased without retoring the factory default settings. To do these tricks you need to short-circuit the pins on the bottom of the phone next to where you plug in you charger.
1. To activate the "Headset" menu, you need to short-circuit pins "3" and "4". After a short time the word "Headset" will be shown in the display. Menu 3-6 is now enabled.
2. To activate the "Car" menu, you need to short-circuit pins "4" and "5". After a short time the word "Car" will be shown in the display. Menu 3-7 is now enabled.
THE REBOOT TRICKThis should work on all software versions of the 6110.
  1. Go to the Calendar (Menu-Cool
  2. Make a note or reminder.
  3. Enter some text into the edit box.
  4. Hold "Clear" until the whole text is cleared, then press "Back".
  5. Press "0". The main screen will now be showing but a space appears on the screen. (you can't see it)
  6. Enter 4 digits (e.g. 1234).
  7. Use the down arrow to move the cursor to the left side of the numbers and the space (Down arrow twice).
  8. Now enter 6 digits and press the call button.
Wait for a few seconds, the screen should start to flash and reboots. It should alsowork on other menus like the "Profiles" menu.
EFR CALL QUALITYTo activate EFR (Enhanced Full Rate) Enter the code- *3370#
This improves call quality but decreases batterylife by about 5% To deactivate it, Enter the code- #3370#
THE JAMES BOND TRICKIf you short-circuit theleft middle and right pins on the bottom of the phone with all connections touching each other, the Nokia software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated. Before you do this just activate the "Automatic Answer" in the headset profile and set the ringing volume to "Mute". Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking about in a room. Just place it under a table in a room and call it. The phone receives the call without ringing and you can listen to what people are saying.
NETWORK MONITORThere is a hidden menu inside your Nokia phone. If you want to activate it, you'll have to re-program some chips inside of your phone.
  1. Check your software version. You can only continue if you have v4.33, v4.73 or v5.24.
  2. Take apart the phone.
  3. De-solder the EEPROM (ATMEL AT 24C64).
  4. Read out the data with an EEPROM programmer and save it to a file (Backup).
  5. If you have v.33 or v4.73, change the address "03B8" from "00" to "FF".
  6. If you have v5.24 then change the address "0378" from "00" to "FF".
  7. Write the new data to the EEPROM and solder it back to the phone,
  8. Power on your phone and you should have "Netmonitor" enabled. The Network Monitor gives you the following information.
  1. Carrier number
  2. MS RX Level in DBM
  3. Received signal quality
  4. MS TX power level
  5. C1 (Path loss criterion, used for cell selection and reselection) . The range is -99 to 99.
  6. RTL (Radio link timeout). • Timeslot • Indication of the transmitter status
  7. Information on the Network parameters.
  8. TMSI (Temporary Mobile Subscriber Identity).
  9. Cell identification (Cell ID, Number of cells being used).
  10. MCC (Mobile country code)
  11. MCN (Mobile network code)
  12. LAC (Location area code)
  13. Ciphering (On/Off)
  14. Hopping (On/Off)
  15. DTX (On/Off)
  16. Discard cell barred information

CHECK SIM-LOCKNote - If you bought your Nokia on UK Vodafone or UK Cellnet you do not need to check this because they both transmit on GSM900, and they don't lock the phones. However if you bought your phone on UK Orange or UK One2one your phone may be blocked. The reason is that they both transmitt on GSM1800. To make a call on GSM1800 you need what is known as a "Dual band" phone. A dual band phone is able to transmit on both GSM900 and GSM1800, so they lock the phones so you can't use it with any other network simcard. If you find that your phone is locked you can try different software to unlock it. (we havn't found one that works yet), or you can ask your service provider who will gladly exchange the 10 digit code for about £35.

This is how to check the status of the 4 different locks. Aslo don't try entering the wrong number, because after 3 times it will block the phone for good. There are 4 different locks on your Nokia phone.

  • COUNTRY-LOCK
  • NETWORK-LOCK
  • PROVIDER-LOCK
  • SIMCARD-LOCKT

he code to read out the sim-lock status of your phone is #PW+(MASTERCODE) +(Y)#

  • # = DOUBLE-CROSS
  • W = PRESS "*" THREE TIMES
  • P = PRESS "*" FOUR TIMES
  • + = PRESS "*" TWO TIMES
  • MASTERCODE = 1234567890
  • Y = NUMBER 1 TO 4

The master code is a secret code. The code has 10 digits, To read out the sim-lock status you can enter every combination you want! "Y" Shows the status of the network-lock. Here you can enter a number from "1" to "4". The "4" is for the sim-card lock.

SIM-LOCK CHECKS

  • #PW+1234567890+ 1# = GIVES PROVIDER-LOCK STATUS
  • #PW+1234567890+ 2# = GIVES NETWORK-LOCK STATUS
  • #PW+1234567890+ 3# = GIVES COUNTRY-LOCK STATUS
  • #PW+1234567890+ 4# = GIVES SIM-CARD-LOCK STATUS.

Mobile Viruses Simple Measures To Protect

The Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA) has developed consumer tips to assist users to protect themselves against the risk of mobile phone viruses.
This guide explains what viruses are, how they spread, and what can be done about them.
What a mobile phone virus?
A mobile phone virus or mobile malware - malicious mobile software - is a computer virus specifically adapted for the mobile phone environment and designed to spread from one vulnerable phone to another.
A virus is a program code that replicates by being copied to another program. Viruses can be transmitted as attachments to an email or in a download file. Some viruses take effect as soon as their code is executed; other viruses can lie dormant. A virus that replicates by resending itself as an email attachment or as a part of a network message is known as a worm.
Viruses can range from benign to quite harmful; they can erase data from the infected phone or send fake messages purporting to be from the phone owner. How prevalent are mobile phone viruses? The current security risk from mobile phone viruses and worms is low.
Until many more or PDAs are in use, and users of these phones are regularly exchanging executable files, the risk will remain low. The mobile industry takes the threat of viruses very seriously and is continually monitoring its networks and working to protect users from any future risk from mobile phone viruses. There are also some simple measures that individual users can implement to protect themselves.
What can I do to protect my phone?
The following tips can help prevent problems with viruses on your phone:
1. Switch to Bluetooth hidden mode. If your phone has Bluetooth capability, ensure that the Bluetooth capability is switched to hidden or invisible mode unless you specifically need it to be visible. This will help prevent other Bluetooth-enabled devices from finding your phone (unless you grant them the necessary permission) and will therefore help protect your phone from worms that spread using the Bluetooth wireless technology.
2. Exercise caution before opening attachments. When accepting applications sent via Bluetooth, or opening MMS attachments, exercise caution, just as you would when opening an email attachment on your PC, because they may include harmful software. Ensure the application or attachment comes from a known source, and is wary of opening files that have unfamiliar text attached to them, even if they come from someone you know.
3. Only download content from a trusted source. Trusted sources may include operator portals and other well-known brands that offer adequate protection against viruses and other harmful software. Be aware though that, as with emails, malicious or fraudulent users may be able to fake the appearance of a trusted source.
4. Consider anti-virus software. Some software is available to prevent phone viruses. You may wish to consider downloading this software.
5. Contact your phone manufacturer if concerned. If you think you have a virus, call the phone manufacturers care line. They can assist you confirm if it is a virus, and help fix the problem.

Tips on buying ur mobile

An increasing number of people of all ages own mobile phones, enjoying the convenience, freedom and re-assurance they provide. There is a range of different handsets and contracts available, providing mobile communication solutions to suit consumers
What's your budget?
Before you do anything else, think about why you want a mobile phone and determine your budget. There are numerous types of call plan, to suit various budgets and needs. There are also services available to help you keep track of what you spend – consider whether this would help you and check out what options are available.
What are your usage patterns?
How often will you be using the phone, at what time of day and what will be your average call length? Will you be using the phone mostly for voice calls, or to SMS friends? Your usage patterns may help determine what type of plan is best for you and your budget.
What types of plan are available?
There are four basic types of service agreement: fixed-term contracts, monthly plans, pre-paid or leasing. Pre-paid is ideal if you want to ensure you stay within a specified budget - perfect for teenagers. Getting a pre-paid first is also a good way of finding out what your usage is and helping you decide what type of plan might best suit you. Monthly plans allow you the flexibility of receiving monthly bills without signing a long-term contract. Business users may prefer the convenience of fixed-term, while leasing may suit you if you only need a phone and handset for a short time. New ‘capped' plans (available post or pre-paid, depending on mobile carrier) also offer convenience and value and may suit many users.
What are the call rates within each plan?
Call rates vary from plan-to-plan. It's important to assess both the rates and the call charge calculation methods when assessing your options. Issues to consider include: How are call charges calculated? On some plans you will be billed per second, on others, per block of time used (usually per 30 or 60 seconds), or, on the newer ‘capped' deals (post and pre-paid), ‘call caps' apply to many services, providing value and certainty; Is there a flag fall (an amount paid for each connection, in addition to call costs)? Are there any special offers (eg cheaper calls off-peak, or to friends on the same network, or for SMS)?
What features do you need in a handset?
A basic handset will allow you to make calls and send and receive SMS. You'll need a more sophisticated one if you want to use the phone abroad, use MMS, voice recording, make video calls, download video or access the internet. Other features to consider are battery capacity (some handsets run longer between charges than others), ease of use, and your coverage requirements (see ‘coverage'). Consider what you really need – or you'll be paying for features you never use. If you already have a handset, are you eligible for other plans?
How much flexibility do you need?
Consider your need for flexibility - and your budget - before you buy a handset or take out a plan. Are you likely to want the flexibility to upgrade your handset when a new one becomes available? Might you want to change to a different plan in six months? There are many different options for paying for handsets (e.g. up-front, flexi-rent deals, as part of your service agreement), and different plans (whether pre-paid or post-paid) have different terms and conditions – for example some include penalties for changing networks, or plans, for example. Read the small print and check you can meet all the minimum conditions of the contract before signing anything.
What coverage do you require?
Where will you be using the phone – only in metropolitan areas, or in the country? The two dominant types of mobile network are GSM and CDMA. Check with the carriers where they have coverage to ensure they can provide the service where you need it before signing up. Your coverage requirements may also affect your handset choice (there are CDMA and GSM handsets).
Evaluate the options. Once you've worked out what you need/want, do your homework; shop around and compare what is available, and what will best suit your likely usage and budget.

Thinkgs U Never Knew UR Cellphone Could

THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW YOUR CELLPHONE COULD ..
There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it: - *EMERGENCY*
*The Emergency Number worldwide for **Mobile** is 112.* If you find yourself out of coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. **Try it out.**
*Subject: Have you locked your keys in the car? Does you car have remote keys?* This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call Someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone.
Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk). Editor's Note: *It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a cell phone!"*
Subject: Hidden Battery power Imagine your cell battery is very low, you are expecting an important call and you don't have a charger. Nokia instrument comes with a reserve battery. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your cell will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell next time.
How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone? To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone:
* # 0 6 #
A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. when your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either.
If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

10 Things U Don't Know Abt NOKIA

1) The ringtone "Nokia tune" is actually based on a 19th century guitar work named "Gran Vals" by Spanish musician Francisco Tárrega. The Nokia Tune was originally named "Grande Valse" on Nokia phones but was changed to "Nokia Tune" around 1998 when it became so well known that people referred to it as the "Nokia Tune."
2) The world's first commercial GSM call was made in 1991 in Helsinki over a Nokia-supplied network, by Prime Minister of Finland Harri Holkeri, using a Nokia phone.
3) Nokia is currently the world's largest digital camera manufacturer, as the sales of its camera-equipped mobile phones have exceeded those of any conventional camera manufacturer.
4) The "Special" tone available to users of Nokia phones when receiving SMS (text messages) is actually Morse code for "SMS". Similarly, the "Ascending" SMS tone is Morse code for "Connecting People," Nokia's slogan. The "Standard" SMS tone is Morse code for "M" (Message).
5) The Nokia corporate font (typeface) is the AgfaMonotype Nokia Sans font, originally designed by Eric Spiekermann. Its mobile phone User's Guides Nokia mostly used the Agfa Rotis Sans font.
6) In Asia, the digit 4 never appears in any Nokia handset model number, because 4 is considered unlucky in many parts of Southeast/East Asia.
7) Nokia was listed as the 20th most admirable company worldwide in Fortune's list of 2006 (1st in network communications, 4th non-US company).
8. Unlike other modern day handsets, Nokia phones do not automatically start the call timer when the call is connected, but start it when the call is initiated. (Except for Series 60 based handsets like the Nokia 6600)
9) Nokia is sometimes called aikon (Nokia backwards) by non-Nokia mobile phone users and by mobile software developers, because "aikon" is used in various SDK software packages, including Nokia's own Symbian S60 SDK.
10) The name of the town of Nokia originated from the river which flowed through the town. The river itself, Nokianvirta, was named after the old Finnish word originally meaning sable, later pine marten. A species of this small, black-furred predatory animal was once found in the region, but it is now extinct.
